Today, the U.S. administration announced a new 50% tariff on most Canadian goods, citing concerns related to Canada’s trade policies affecting sectors including automobiles, alcohol, and dairy. The measures are expected to come into force on August 19, 2026, and apply to goods covered by the Canada-U.S.-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA), however, certain products including steel, aluminum, autos, energy, potash, critical minerals and fish will be exempt from the new tariff.
