The Surrey & White Rock Board of Trade (SWRBOT) welcomes today’s announcement of more than $33 million in provincial investments to improve health care access in Surrey and the broader region.
The investment will support improvements at Surrey Memorial Hospital, including a new emergency department satellite centre and front-door triage team, additional medical imaging capacity through a new and replacement CT scanner, and expanded community services for seniors and their families.
As Surrey continues to grow, so does its role as a health care hub for residents and communities across the region. Investments that expand capacity at Surrey Memorial Hospital and strengthen community-based care are important not only for Surrey residents, but for the broader population that relies on health care services in the region.
SWRBOT has consistently advocated for increased health-care investment, expanded services, and infrastructure that can keep pace with Surrey’s rapid population and workforce growth, whether that is in meetings with provincial representatives, in budget consultations, or following meetings with healthcare professionals. In 2024, we welcomed provincial investment in a new renal hemodialysis unit at Surrey Memorial Hospital, highlighting the importance of expanding health care capacity to meet the needs of a growing community.
Surrey’s growth requires health care infrastructure and services that can keep pace with the people who live, work, and invest here. We have consistently called for greater investment in health care because access to timely, quality care is essential to a strong community, a healthy workforce and a growing economy. Today’s announcement is an important step forward, and we are pleased to see continued investment in Surrey’s health care system.
