The Surrey & White Rock Board of Trade (SWRBOT) welcomes the Government of Canada’s decision to advance the Roberts Bank Terminal 2 Project through the Major Projects Office as part of the new Port of Vancouver Gateway Strategy. This announcement marks an important step toward delivering critical trade infrastructure that will strengthen Canada’s long-term economic competitiveness.

A long-time advocate for the Roberts Bank Terminal 2 Project, SWRBOT has consistently called for strategic investments that expand Canada’s trade capacity, improve supply chain resilience and support the efficient movement of goods through the region.

As Canada’s gateway to Asia-Pacific markets, the Port of Vancouver is essential to our national supply chain. The Roberts Bank Terminal 2 Project will increase the Port’s container-handling capacity by approximately 50 per cent, unlocking more than $100 billion in new annual trade capacity, contributing over $3 billion annually to Canada’s GDP, and supporting approximately 17,000 ongoing jobs throughout the supply chain.

For Surrey and the south of Fraser region, this project is particularly significant. Our region is home to a growing number of manufacturers, importers, exporters, logistics providers, and distribution centres that depend on reliable access to Canada’s largest port. Expanding trade infrastructure will strengthen supply chains, support business growth, attract investment, and reinforce the region’s role as a key transportation and logistics hub.

The Roberts Bank Terminal 2 Project is an investment in Canada’s future. For years, the Surrey & White Rock Board of Trade has advocated for expanding our trade infrastructure because businesses need reliable, efficient supply chains to remain competitive. As our region continues to grow, projects like Roberts Bank Terminal 2 will help create jobs, attract investment, and ensure Canadian businesses can access global markets with confidence.

Following more than a decade of environmental assessment, regulatory review, including extensive consultation with Indigenous Nations, the project has received federal environmental approval subject to legally binding conditions. SWRBOT encourages all levels of government to continue working collaboratively with Indigenous Nations, industry, and local communities to ensure this critical project moves forward efficiently and responsibly.
