The Surrey & White Rock Board of Trade welcomes the news that the BC General Employees’ Union and the Government of British Columbia have agreed to enter mediation in an effort to resolve the ongoing strike.
This job action has already created significant challenges for businesses across Surrey and White Rock – from delays in permitting, licensing, and inspections to disruptions in the supply of regulated goods that impact restaurants, retailers, and hospitality operators. Each day the strike continues adds uncertainty, stalls projects, and places additional strain on employers who depend on consistent and efficient government services.
“We recognize the importance of fair negotiations and the rights of workers to advocate for better conditions. However, the economic ripple effects of this strike are being felt throughout our business community, particularly for small and medium-sized businesses that form the backbone of our regional economy.”
Joslyn Young, CEO
The Surrey & White Rock Board of Trade urges both parties to approach mediation with urgency and collaboration, and to reach a fair, balanced resolution as quickly as possible. The stability of BC’s business environment and the confidence of those who invest, employ, and innovate here, depend on it.
We remain committed to advocating for a stable, predictable economic climate that enables businesses and workers alike to thrive.
