The Surrey & White Rock Board of Trade recognizes the recent strike authorization vote among B.C.’s public-sector workers, with job action beginning today. The BC General Employees Union strike has significant implications for our local business community.
Businesses across Surrey and White Rock depend on provincial government services and supply chains that are disrupted during job action. From delayed permits and approvals to challenges in accessing regulated products like liquor for restaurants and hospitality, these disruptions add uncertainty at a time when many businesses are already managing inflation, labour shortages, and economic pressures.
We encourage all parties involved to remain at the bargaining table and work toward a fair resolution. An agreement that addresses worker needs while ensuring the continuity of vital services will support business confidence and sustain long-term regional growth.
“Surrey and White Rock are among the fastest-growing communities in B.C., and ensuring continuity of public services is critical for sustaining that growth. We encourage all parties to work toward an agreement that protects both workers and the prosperity of our region.”
