The Surrey & White Rock Board of Trade congratulates the City of Surrey and Simon Fraser University (SFU) on signing a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to advance the SFU Frontier Hub for Agritech Research and Methodology (SFU-FARM). Announced at the Mayor’s Future of Agriculture in Surrey Forum; an event we were proud to co-host, this partnership signals a significant step forward in strengthening Surrey’s leadership in agricultural innovation.

SFU-FARM will bring together industry, researchers, and government to accelerate the development of next-generation agri-tech solutions. By advancing smart-farming tools, automation, and data-driven research, the initiative will help local producers increase productivity, reduce environmental impacts, and build long-term resilience in a rapidly changing climate.

“Surrey’s economic future is tied to innovation across every sector, including agriculture,” said Joslyn Young, CEO of the Surrey & White Rock Board of Trade. “This agreement creates the foundation for a world-class agri-tech network that will support local businesses, attract investment, and position our region as a hub for sustainable food technologies.”

As Minister Popham noted during her remarks at the event, “Surrey will be the centre of innovation… the best days are ahead of us.” Today’s MOU is a strong indication of that future taking shape. The Surrey & White Rock Board of Trade looks forward to continuing to support partnerships that strengthen the region’s economic and agricultural competitiveness.
