The Surrey Board of Trade is pleased with the International Credentials Recognition Act, effective July 1, 2024. This new law, developed with 18 regulatory bodies and led by the Parliamentary Secretary for International Credentials, will help internationally trained professionals join Surrey’s business community more easily.
The Act simplifies credential recognition for 29 professions, including engineers, social workers, and teachers, by reducing unnecessary rules and barriers. It removes the need for Canadian work experience, a common obstacle for many professionals.
“This Act is a significant step forward for Surrey’s business community,” said Anita Huberman, President & CEO, Surrey Board of Trade. “We hope that the Act will allows skilled professionals from around the world to work in their area of expertise, benefiting businesses and our community.”
The Act also ensures fair fees for all applicants, eliminates redundant English-language tests, and introduces new transparency requirements. The Province of BC will appoint a Superintendent of International Credential Recognition to oversee compliance with the new regulations.
