SURREY BOARD OF TRADE TO POSTPONE SURREY MAYOR’S ANNUAL STATE OF THE CITY LUNCHEON TO SEPTEMBER 2018

The Surrey Mayor’s Annual State of the City Address Lunch, scheduled for May 24, will be postponed to mid-September.

Due to the Union Strike currently taking place at the Sheraton Hotel, and the unavailability of a suitable venue for an event which requires specific logistical support, the Surrey Board of Trade and the Surrey Mayor’s office have decided to postpone this event.

“I ask for your patience until we finalize a date,” said Anita Huberman, CEO, Surrey Board of Trade.

Today, the Surrey & White Rock Board of Trade (SWRBOT) joined business leaders from across the province to raise concerns about the Government of British Columbia’s decision to expand the Provincial Sales Tax (PST) to previously exempt professional services, including accounting, engineering, security, strata management, and commercial real estate services.

Today, business leaders representing key pillars of B.C.’s economy called on the province of British Columbia to scrap the newly announced expansion of the Provincial Sales Tax (PST) to a wide range of professional services, including accounting, engineering, architectural, security, and commercial real estate services, with the 7% PST applied broadly and a partial 30% tax base applied to architectural, engineering, and geoscience (AEG) work.
