Today, the Federal Government announced it will remove the GST from new purpose-built rental housing developments. Further, the Federal Government will require municipalities to repeal or amend exclusionary zoning policies in order to access Canada’s housing accelerator fund.

“This is a huge and positive move to ensure more affordable housing for our workforce,” said Anita Huberman, President & CEO of the Surrey Board of Trade. “Now we need municipal governments to ensure streamlined, efficient and quick approvals for purpose-built rental housing development proposals.”

“Purpose-built rental housing is an essential part of solving the housing crisis.”

We ask that the Federal Government expedite the implementation of this new policy immediately.
