Surrey, BC – The Surrey Board of Trade (SBOT), representing over 3,000 businesses, strongly supports the City of Surrey’s South Campbell Heights Local Area Plan and the associated Zoning By-law Amendment.

The plan is critical for addressing the industrial land shortage that has constrained business growth and investment in Surrey and across the Metro Vancouver region. By unlocking essential industrial, commercial, and employment lands, the South Campbell Heights area will:

  • Create thousands of high-quality jobs for Surrey residents;
  • Attract businesses seeking modern industrial and commercial spaces;
  • Strengthen Surrey’s tax base, supporting community growth and services.

“This plan is not just about Surrey—it’s about regional economic sustainability,” said Jasroop Gosal, Interim Spokesperson and Policy & Research Manager for SBOT. “The South Campbell Heights area represents a once-in-a-generation opportunity to address the industrial land crisis while balancing environmental and community needs. We urge Council to approve this plan for the benefit of Surrey’s future and the Metro Vancouver economy.”

The South Campbell Heights plan reflects a responsible approach to development, balancing environmental priorities with the need for economic growth. SBOT believes the City of Surrey’s leadership in approving this plan will position the city as a regional leader in driving economic opportunity while ensuring long-term sustainability.

SBOT encourages Mayor and Council to move forward with this critical initiative to secure Surrey’s role as an economic powerhouse for years to come.
